A three-day Teqball Training Camp organised by the TEQ Sri Lanka at Kilinochchi Indoor Stadium concluded today with great success. The training camp started the last Friday with 41 participants and today it came to the end without missing a single person until the last session. It shows their passion and enthusiasm for the new sport – Teqball in the North.
In the first session of the third day, TEQ Sri Lanka’s very first official t-shirt was unveiled by the International Teqball Coach – Milan Szabo and TEQ Sri Lanka’s Project Manager - Sivarajah Gobinath. Following this, all the participants were issued Teqlanka T-shirts. Then, teqers started the session with a warm-up led by the local coordinator L. Anurakhantan. Milan showed participants some dills to improve reflex touches and then participants also followed the same for an hour. After all practical session, an education session was set up on the “Zero-to-Hero Programme” which was undertaken by Gobinath in their local language – Tamil. And then a discussion session also was conducted to clear participants’ doubts.
Before lunch, coaches and referees registered for the examination. Altogether 30 participants showed their interest to attend coaching and/or refereeing examinations. After the lunch, more than 15 participants registered on the FITEQ and FITEQ Education platforms. Then refereeing examination and coaching examination were conducted.
Finally, the teqball training camp successfully concluded with a closing ceremony organised by the Kili Teq. On behalf of the participants, Mannar Teq Coach Jeramy delivered the vote of thanks. Milan and Gobinath were honoured for their service by the participants. Speaking to the participants, Milan said “I am really happy to represent FITEQ and train all of you here; Also, I believe that you have enjoyed a lot in the last three days and keep playing teqball and enjoy it.” “I am very happy to see your performance within this short time and I am sure you shall keep playing and teqball shall be another popular sport in North”, Gobinath said.
Since the Northern region was badly affected by the war, this programme is counted as one of the social responsibility activities by the TEQ Sri Lanka. TEQ Sri Lanka also believes that by introducing a new sport – teqball to these regional people, we can give confidence and hope for a better tomorrow.
As the next, TEQ Sri Lanka has already planned for a couple of TEQ BALL Development Programme under the slogan of “Empowering Sports Culture” shall be held in Colombo for both Colombo district and outstation teqers from April 20 until April 29, 2021. Following this, TEQ Sri Lanka plans to conduct Hon. President Challengers Trophy also in Colombo by the first week of May.

The second day of the three-day training camp in Kilinochchi came to a very successful completion after a long day with multiple activities. The International Coach – Milan who is very dedicatedly working in Kilinochchi for the teqball development programme said Northern Regional teqers show their passion greatly and they have improved a lot within a short period of time. Milan added, “One more day left for them and I shall do my best to improve their skills and looking forward to seeing some qualified coaches and referees from the North soon after tomorrow’s examination”.
Today’s first session started with an education programme for the referees. They were very keen on asking many questions and cleared their doubts with Milan. Following the first session, all the participants did a proper warm-up led by Milan for a practical session. In the practical session, the players were allowed to play and referees to officiate. During the matches, whenever the referees made mistakes in rules and signals, Milan stopped the matches for a while and explained how to be effective in future games.
After the lunch break, again another educational session was organised by Milan. He did a video presentation on effective coaching methodology and it was translated by the Project Manager of TEQ Sri Lanka – Gobinath. Coaches were really into the session as it was really new to them. After that educational programme, all the coaches were asked to create their own drills and coach the teqlankans. While introducing the new drills to the players, Milan observed their creativities and advised them for the improvement in future.
Finally, day-2 ended with friendly matches among the players. The teqlankans also really enjoyed the whole day and Milan also fully satisfied with his whole day training programme. The third and the final day of the programme shall commence at 8.00 a.m. tomorrow at Kilinochchi Indoor Stadium. Milan plans for training and a brief session in the morning and after that, the participants shall be given an opportunity to sit for the Level C examination in the afternoon. Those who pass the examination shall be issued certification by the FITEQ.
